Dec. 1 Nonresident licenses and tags go on sale for the next year’s seasons.

Jan. 1 Spring steelhead season opens. Buy a new fishing license and pick up a fishing rules booklet. Be sure you have a new Idaho waterfowl permit if you’re a duck or goose hunter.
Jan. 10* Sign up your child for Hunter Education so he or she can apply for a controlled hunt. Call your regional IDFG office for class schedules.
Jan. 15* F&G Commission meets to set moose, sheep & goat rules.
Jan. 15– Feb. 15 Turkey and spring black bear controlled hunt
Mar. 7* F&G Commission meets to set budget and deer, elk, antelope, bear and mountain lion rules.
Apr. 1–Apr. 30 Moose, mountain goat and bighorn sheep
controlled hunt application period.
Apr. 14* Wild turkey general season opens.
Apr. 15* Spring black bear general season and controlled hunts open.
Apr. 17* F&G Commission meets to set upland bird opening dates.
May 1–May 31 Application period for controlled hunts for deer,
elk, antelope and fall black bear.
May 8* F&G Commission meets to approve budget.
May 31 General fishing season opens.
June 6 Free Fishing Day (no license required). Take a youngster to a fishing clinic.
July 10* Last chance to sign up for Hunter Education classes at regional offices.
July 15–Aug. 15 Landowner preference deer/elk/antelope hunt
July 17* F&G Commission meets to set dove, upland birds, furbearer, early goose and crane seasons.
Aug. 14* F&G Commission meets to set migratory game bird and waterfowl rules and discuss FY ’99 budget and legislative proposals.
Aug. 15 Antelope general archery season opens.
Aug. 29 Last day to exchange a general-season elk or deer tag for another zone/type.
Aug. 30 General archery season for deer and elk opens.**
Most controlled hunts for moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat open.
Sept. 1 Forest grouse and mourning dove seasons open.
Fall steelhead season opens.
Fall black bear controlled hunts open.**
Sept. 15 Backcountry general seasons open for deer, elk.
